37. How to Recover From Sexism in the WorkPlace
If you are recovering from an event stemming from sexism or trying to come back from a sexist comment, know that you are not alone. Sexism can leave us feeling confused, ashamed, and with a hit to our self-confidence. Listen to this week's episode to learn the language surrounding sexism and how to recover from sexism in the work place.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF SEXISM
Hostile Sexism – Those who have hostile sexism towards women shows disdain or hatred.
Benevolent Sexism – The belief that women are less capable, weaker, and not as intelligent as men. This view can be subtle and can be encouraged when women’s value is based purely on their role as a mother or on their physical appearance.
Ambivalent Sexism – A combination of hostile and benevolent sexism. This kind of sexism is the belief that women can be both good but also deceitful and manipulative. Ambivalent sexism is reflected in the cycle of abuse and keeps women as subordinates (Lambert 2019).
This list comes from the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory that researchers use to look at and measure sexism.

17. All About Gratitude
When I read about gratitude today, it isn't what I learned about in church growing up. This isn't really what I grew up learning about in church. Right? Or is this different? Is this the same? Is gratitude the same as thankfulness? What does the Bible have to say about gratitude and how should Apply to our lives?
Here are gratitude examples from the book of Psalm.
THANKFUL FOR…
- Answered prayers – no matter what the answer of prayer ends up being, David gives thanks to the Lord in Psalm 7:17.
- Being disciplined – David thanks God for His discipline in Psalm 30.
- The faithfulness of God – Psalm 138 shares the faithfulness of God through the Davidic covenant. Chapter 138 is the first of eight Psalms talking about the promise God gives David, that He will uphold His covenant to the Israelites.
- God’s help – Psalm 124 is a song giving thanks to God for delivering the Israelites from the Egyptians.
Psalm 100 is an entire song thanking God for being who He is.
Now, in the list above I mention Psalm 124, which is a song talking about the deliverance from the Egyptians. This reminds me of how the night before Jesus was crucified, He spent time giving thanks at the celebration of the Passover. Then He was broken on our behalf.
What does this mean to you and I? We can be thankful through the brokenness. Gratitude isn’t a practice for a better mood –– it could be.
However, I think we would be missing the bigger picture. Once we see our true brokenness and God’s Holiness, I think gratitude becomes more than a day or a notebook, but an outlook on life. We can be broken because Christ took our place, He is faithful, we get God’s help and deliverance, we get to grow up and learn when we are disciplined by God, and He answers prayers.
All four of those reasons allow me to practice gratitude not after a bad day; but even during brokenness.

15. How to Be an Open Person
People who tend to be helpers listen more easily from their heart than their gut. Risk-takers who move quickly on instinct find it easier to listen from their gut than their heart. In your daily interactions, practice receiving from your most vulnerable place to balance the three large organs of your nervous system. This practice will help you open and align your entire nervous system when making decisions or doing life. Being an open person takes being real. Jesus exposed the fakers. This and more on this week's episode.

7. The Power of Presence
The power of presence. This week we are going to look at what it means to sit with another person and give that person the positive power of presence. This is not a skill we understand right away so we are going to talk through the top tips to creating presence with others. Fashion’s use of the word presence is essentially the same as “taking up space” or getting noticed which is so different from how the mental health field uses the word. Let’s not compete to be noticed, but connect through presence with each other in the workplace. God’s gift to us is giving us the power of presence through the Holy Spirit. Jesus said the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives is better than his physical presence which is wild! We are going to look at John 7:16 which talks about the power of the Holy Spirit. Lot’s of amazing reminders today! I hope you enjoy.

1. Self Care for Mental Health Resilience
Hi friend, thank you so much for taking the time to watch or listen. Welcome to the first episode of the UR Covered podcast. I have been learning so much about self-care recently since I had around four months of working from home. It was a short season of rest before I jump into the last year of my masters in mental health counseling. I decided to share how I find self-care to be Biblical, how fashion can be a mental health tool for self-care, and how self-care is beneficial for your mental health. That’s all in today’s episode. Enjoy!
