Fashion – The Importance of the Men’s Suite We See Today.

We are reading from a book excerpt from Fashion Theology by Robert Covolo

Theology – When You’re Being Redirected.

My family and I were coming home from Mexico we had to be redirected to Detroit and then to Chicago. Flying is always stressful so to hear that we would have to get on two different flights instead of a direct flight we were a little disappointed. After being redirected to Detroit we realized that going through customs was so much easier than it would have been at O’Hare.

Sometimes this is how life works. When God redirects us it is easy to look at the bad and miss what He is doing. I’ve had a few redirections in life… Not going to graduate school right away to become a therapist… Having a thriving career in radio… then experiencing a lot of dead ends in my broadcasting career… to going back to school to finish my degree to become a therapist… and let’s not unpack my love life. There were a ton of redirections there.

We all experience plans and dreams changing, sometimes it isn’t a drastic life change and sometimes it is. A passing of a loved-one, experiencing miscarriages, a broken engagement, divorce… all of these painful events can be a redirection.

Some verses that have helped me is Provebrs 16:9 “A man’s heart plans his way: but the Lord directs his steps”. God is sovereign. He is omniscient or all-knowing. And I can trust that He has a plan that will work out.

I mention another verse in this episode is Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them”.

The good and the bad work together to create a purpose. Look out for the purpose.

Therapy — Are you Spiritually Bypassing Your Healing?

Description

Spiritually bypassing is defined as using one’s spirituality to avoid facing unresolved issues either on a personal, interpersonal or systemic level. The term was made popular in the 1980’s by the late John Welwood, a Buddhist teacher and psychotherapist who observed the phenomenon in his own spiritual community

Spiritual Bypassing & Toxic Positivity: How to Avoid Them | Mindworks

Spiritually bypass actually doing the painful psychological work or unfinished business from the past (usually childhood). This work leads to emotional healing and the ability to live a life of authenticity, intimacy and vulnerability.

To figure out if you’ve been engaging in spiritually bypassing, ask yourself the following questions:

Spiritually Bypassing Questions

  • Do I pretend that things are okay when they are clearly not?
  • Do I have feelings of detachment?
  • Do I always think I have to rise above my emotions?
  • Do I avoid feelings of anger, shame, or sadness?
  • Do I use my faith as a way to hide from my insecurities?
  • Do I use defense mechanisms like denial and repression?
  • Do I focus only on eternity while ignoring the present?
  • Do I think I can overcome all my problems solely with positive thinking?
  • Do I project my own negative feelings onto others?
  • Do I have incredibly high, probably unattainable idealism?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then you have been spiritually bypassing your emotions.
