I love throwing parties. I really do. It’s not because I love being a host or am an amazing cook. I just think it’s a blast to gather people you love and celebrate. Whatever that celebration might be. I have historically planned a birthday party for myself every year in February. I was a young life kid and sometimes I think this is why I enjoy a large group of friends at a house party. There’s nothing like it in my opinion.
Birthday Parties in the Past.
Up until the pandemic I would celebrate with my friends all together at restaurants or if the apartment I was living at was large enough. When the pandemic hit in 2020 large groups of people were not meeting up. When I look back we did get creative. 2020 John and I celebrated together, 2021 we went to Wisconsin with another couple and rented a cabin, in 2022 John and I escaped to a cabin in Kentucky again. I am not sure if being cautious was the total reason we didn’t have a huge party or because every time I seemed to plan something it was canceled by someone getting sick or exposed or because we were just wanting things to be small and simple — but that’s how it’s been.
It had been a while since we had the gang all back. This year was the perfect timing. We have a great home perfect for hosting and it was my 30th birthday!
In the past, I have written blog posts about lessons I’ve learned in my twenties and I am not sure if I am going to continue this into my thirties. I feel like leaving that tradition behind. You learn so much in your twenties. It is such a wild time of self-discovery. Going forward I am just ready to be. I don’t want to have to prove myself to anyone or be something I am not. I just want to be who I am and find myself in spaces that accept that.
Anyways, I might write an entirely different post on that topic later.

I want to show you how I celebrated turning 30. 30th birthdays can be weird. I never thought I would have such a hard time thinking about what I didn’t do in my 20s. In my experience, it was things that I wasn’t really in a rush to do, but all of a sudden I am 30 and I feel like I should have had so much more on my twenties to-do list.
I can’t take total credit for how this party turned out. My friend Kieran took the aesthetic and ran with it.
The theme was “death to my twenties” and I think it was perfect. I did have a hardcore phase in high school so I was living my dream. I also got grounded for dying my hair pink in high school so I was obsessed with these hot pink hair extensions Kieran found for me.
Anyways, I hope you are inspired to celebrate a new decade and relive your emo days.
